Invertigo Dance Theater's artistic director, Laura Karlin describes her latest production Reeling as "a mixture of dance, theatre, live music, precisely choreographed tequila shots, lesbian karaoke fantasies and goldfish." And that' s exactly what we saw last night at the Odyssee Theater.
It is always a pleasure to see a show with live music and dance well integrated. All but a few of the tracks last night were originals giving dancers and musicians a platform to build and develop their stories, character and choreography. Through the Q & A at the end of the production, we found out that Laura set up various exercises to get her dancers vocally orientated. Her example was for them to hold a push up and to vocalize the pain they were experiencing through words! Needless to say this added another element of surprise to the show as her dancers were comfortable connecting with each other and of course the harassing of audience members!
Reeling had a successful run and sold out in their last week!! Woohoo Invertigo.
The DancePlug Team really enjoyed watching Invertigo Dance Theatre's creativity.
Thank you Laura for inviting us and supporting DancePlug!
