| description: | Described by the Beverly Hills Outlook as "young and intellectual with a healthy focus on pleasing the audience...that is very refreshing," Lester Horton Award winning RhetOracle Dance Company now brings its 5th production, La Bayadere, to the stage at IVC. RhetOracle re-imagines the classic ballet in the modern day Deep South of Lousinana. Set to a score of classic and contemporary blues artists, from Muddy Waters and John Lee Hooker to The Black Keys and The Dead Weather, we follow the story of a bar called The Temple, where the blues is religion and whiskey is holy water. Sam, a returning prodigal son and former manager, comes home to claim his old job and life back and reignites his love for his old flame, Nikki, the head go-go dancer. However, Regina King, the boss, has her eyes set on Sam marrying her daughter Gemma-Belle and taking over the club and will resort to anything, no matter how risky, to get her way. True love and betrayal, roofies and acid trips, Shades and shimmies take the stage in the form of wild contemporary dancing this September 2011. |
