WHEN to dance is as important as how to dance. The body politic is a constant balancing act. I would suggest an artistic endeavor. The building blocks necessary for a long, healthy, successful dance life can be placed and set down, but not in stone.
Dance is the study of movement. Dance is the understanding of center, an ever changing place. Dance is the realization of adjustments. Dance is movement.
Like the physical alignment of actions, the dancer needs to understand the physical necessity of rest, and bring to that understanding no-guilt in the "down time".
Taking time to enliven the body and brain with life's other offerings, can inform the artist. Sometimes it is better to receive (impressions, visuals, laughter, conversation, a walk, a museum, a book...) than to give.
Be well in your dance.

Here Here! Well said
Here Here! Well said Nichelle! It is for this reason that I still take classes from my teachers whenever I can. I as a student dont want to stop learning and so need to take new classes(im going to take Ryan Heffingtons class very soon ahhh!) , read books that dont have anything to do with dance as the subject, but the lessons learned I can apply to my dancing(currently reading Shantaram, I highly recommend this book) But it sure dosent hurt to have Laura Fremont as a friend either! Hee hee!
Different times in our lives
Different times in our lives call for emphasis on one or the other (giving or receiving) but for the most part, I've found, the balance of these is crucial to my development and peace as a dancer and as a human. For example, my teaching, a huge offering of myself, is at its best when I am engaged in receiving from other sources. It replenishes me so that I can give some more!
