Tonight my heart felt a lovely breath of fresh air, as I watched a little dance presentation from Heart & Sole.
While still a student of Pacific Studio for Dance, Hye Young Shim created Heart & Sole, simply to share her passion for dance with her community. Hye Young along with her student friends would regroup weekly, create, choreograph and perform at various venues that they find themselves. Hye Young being now in college, her friends have kept Heart & Sole alive: they create ballet, jazz, musical theatre, tap and hip-hop dance numbers, as well as singing ones (breathtaking!).
Laura, I already loved your girls, and tonight reminded me why: they are just 200% filled with passion. You must be so proud :-)
Hye Young, Lindsey & Rita, what you are doing is absolutely wonderful. I will miss you sooooo much next year!

ahhhh I miss Heart and Sole! I'm sad that I wasn't there to watch the show, but I am very sure that it was brilliant! Heart and Sole is probably one of the most memorable moments in my dance life. The reactions you see from the elders, children, peers, parents, etc. is PRICELESS!!

Thanks Anh!
Heart & Sole...from the heart to the soles of their feet.
I felt pretty awestruck after our studio showing....The pride in my heart comes from the fact that it's not my program, but theirs! I don't go into the studio on Fridays (at all) when they hold their auditions/rehearsals/meetings/etc. They have keys (and a parent) and they go to "their home" for a two hour session. I saw the show for the first time last night as well. They are so respectful of each other in giving and receiving the process. I realize my influence, but also realize, that they have taken dance as their own, they own it, they work with it, they are familiar with it, they love and share it. Even my 7 & 8 year olds Choreographed their own dance (it was darn good too, and reminded me of some things I need to work on!!!
I tell you what, I am proud because they're connection to dance is whole, and they have come to a time where I think they have exceeded their teacher in the effort. That makes me smile.
