Allison Schieler’s professional dance training began upon her acceptance to LaGuardia High School of Music & Art and Performing Arts at Lincoln Center, where she studied classical ballet, pointe, the Horton and Graham techniques, tap, and jazz. The recipient of a National Merit Award in modern dance and a New York Regional Award in choreography in the National Foundation for Advancement in the Arts/YoungArts competition, Allison graduated from LaGuardia with the “Graduation Dance Award,” the department’s highest honor. Additionally, Allison presented her own work in the annual Young Choreographer’s Festival held at Symphony Space as a selected choreographer.
Allison continued her education as a dance major at New York University/Tisch School of the Arts, where she trained with and performed works by David Dorfman Dance, Battleworks, Keigwin + Company, Ron K. Brown and Evidence Dance Company, Ellis Wood Dance, Gina Gibney Dance, Nicholas Leichter Dance, Pamela Pietro, Cherylyn Lavagnino, and Deborah Jowitt. In 2010, she was selected to perform at “The Face of Tisch Gala,” honoring alum Billy Crystal, allowing her the opportunity to work with current Smash choreographer Joshua Bergasse, and perform alongside Whoopi Goldberg, Robin Williams, and Billy Crystal. In her last year at Tisch, Allison’s choreography was chosen among twenty student works to represent the department in its major, end of the year concert. She also worked with, and premiered new works by, Kate Weare and Séan Curran. Allison currently freelances as a professional dancer and choreographer.
