CELEBRATE DANCE 2013 Executive Producer, Jamie Nichols’ annual production of the best of Los Angles dance companies will return to the Alex Theatre in Glendale on March 9th for one night only with its eclectic, vibrant offering of concert dance. This first rate production, which has proved a springboard for many emerging companies and choreographers from Los Angeles returns with support from Glendale Arts. The Flourish Foundation, for the 4th year, will sponsor a week of master classes at Bancroft Howe Middle School in Hollywood and distribute 150 free tickets to those students for the performance. The classes will be taught by participating Celebrate Dance choreographers Pat Taylor Artistic Director of JazzAntiqua Dance Ensemble, Jacob “Kujo” Lyons Artistic Director of Lux Aeterna Dance Company, and Laura Karlin Artistic Director of Invertigo Dance Theatre.

The production welcomes back companies from past events with new works and introduces three new companies to the lineup. Returning are Pat Taylor’s cool and blue Jazz Antiqua Dance Ensemble, Jacob “Kujo” Lyons breakdance influenced company Lux Aeterna, and Los Angeles Contemporary Dance Company, the downtown scene’s iconic modern dance powerhouse directed by Kate Hutter. In the theater dance genre, Laura Karlin returns with a fresh new work from Invertigo Dance Theatre.

Solo artist Lydia Zimmer, who stunned audiences with her idiosyncratic brand of solo improvisation in 2012, will return with new choreography for Lydia Zimmer + Dancers, an expanded all-female ensemble. An unknown last season, look for this edgy performance to double down on innovation from an exceptional talent.

Celebrate Dance 2013 also introduces first-time appearances by Michael Nikerson-Rossi as Artistic Director and choreographer for the modern dance company Michael Nickerson-Rossi Dance, and the jazz and contemporary dance based SoleVita Dance with choreography by Joelle Martinec. Artistic Director Francisco Gella turns to his newly formed ensemble, Colabo Youth Dance Collective, in its first big stage outing to premiere a new work to Max Richter’s ballet score, Infra.

Celebrate Dance, now in its eighth season, continues to introduce audiences to the varied strengths of local dance both with its breadth of artistic expression and superior production values. Eileen Cooley will return with her masterful lighting designs and technical focus. DancePlug will again be on hand for interviews and coverage from the Alex Theatre stage. Tickets are available through the Alex Theatre box office online. Group rates and promotions available as advertised. You can see previews of the participating companies at www.celebratedance.org This very popular production regularly sells out. Get your tickets in advance.
