Description
A member of the Leadership Team, the School Director oversees all artistic matters relating to the Ballet School, Trainee Program, and Education Programs including daily operations-term strategic planning, scheduling, curriculum development, and classroom instruction. Assures Ballet School and Trainee Program policies and standards are consistent with and in alignment with the needs for SFB Company. Represents SFBS to maintain and further develop national and international relationships.
Compensation/Fee
Pay Grade 5 - $157,900 - $185,700 annually

Roles
Artistic and Cross-Departmental Leadership
- Champion the work of SF Ballet – both in the school and the company - and have strong, high-level training experience based in the international dance scene
- Sustain a strong collaborative artistic partnership with the Artistic Director, the Associate Artistic Director and the Director of Education and Training
- Display the ability to lead, teach, manage and inspire both the Staff and school students
- Ensure that a high level of professional excellence and morale is maintained throughout the school
- Demonstrate, develop, and maintain effective team-working within departments, and between the school and the company
- Serves (with Director of Education and Training), as liaison to the Board of Trustees though the process of regular meetings with the School Committee of the Board.
- Exhibit Leadership at school and company events, contributing to Development/Marketing occasions as needed
- Lead school meetings, and attend Board meetings, and full Company meetings as required
- Advise Artistic Director or her representative (Associate Artistic Director, rehearsal directors) in the selection of students to be cast for roles in Company Productions and/or offered apprentice positions with the Company.
Education & Training Artistic Oversight
- Day to day oversight of the Ballet School: Advise and meet with faculty and administrative staff for consultation of program management and development. Develop curriculum and plan class schedules in coordination with artistic and technical standards. Teach classes and rehearse for performances. Coach individual students as needed.
- Oversee artistic elements of Education Programs, including performances, classes, resources, and residency programs; collaborates on main-stage programming elements as needed.
- With Director of Education & Training, identifies opportunties for collaboration with Education programs, as well as community partners and local dance community.
- Finds opportunities to integrate School and Education programs in alignment with organiation's strategic goals.
- With the Director of Education and Training, participate in the development and management of School and Student Housing budgets and strategic planning for the department, as well as the development of new sources of earned revenue.
- Hire and train School and Trainee Program faculty. Supervise all faculty. Formally observes faculty while teaching at least four times per year; provides feedback as needed, and written evaluation, as per SFBA protocols. Conducts regular faculty meetings. Sets schedule for teacher professional development as needed.
- Develop School curriculum and class schedules, and with administrative staff, organize calendars and Trainee performance schedule.
- Assess artistic development and wellness for the whole student technical accomplishment, performance, psychological issues, healthy weight management, career goals.
- Choose repertoire for the annual showcase performance as well as for the Trainee Program performances. Select students for the Trainee Program and set evaluation standards for the advanced student to support the artistic needs of the Company.
- Oversees faculty in their bi-annual student evaluations. Direct the student evaluation and exam process to determine student promotion.
- Together with the School faculty, select students for year-round and summer programs. Attend auditions and assign faculty to both on-site and national auditions as required.
- With School administrative staff, develop School protocols and policies for enrolled students and those living at our residences.
