Bio

Ava J Bernstine, affectionately called ‘Flava’,native to Los Angeles, has worked along side Debbie Allen since 2001, assisting her in multiple projects and teaching at the Debbie Allen Dance Academy, in Culver City, Ca. She is a young, energetic, and passionate dancer who, although teaches, is humbled and considers herself to still be a student of the art. Ava is well versed in hip hop, jazz, modern, and also ballet and tap. She has traveled the world performing and teaching hip-hop in countries such as India, Germany and Australia.

Prior to her dance career taking off, Ava attended Cal State University Northridge where she studied journalism and is currently a freelance writer for MATEO magazine. She toured with Justin Timberlake's 2007 FutureSex/LoveShow as a principal dancer under the direction of Marty Kudelka as well as the Up Close and Personal Tour II with Chris Brown dancing for Sean Kingston, choreographed by Sho Tyme and the Britney Spears Circus tour. Some of her other credits include TV appearances on "That's So Raven" “Dancing With Stars, she was also a featured dancer in the feature film FAME and music video such as Omarion's "Entourage" working with Aakomon ‘AJ’ Jones and Justin Timberlake’s "My Love."

Ava enjoys teaching and believes that it is important that as a dancer you know your history as well as the movement. Although dance styles are ever evolving, she has a passion for encouraging dancers to challenge themselves to studying dance history; where it comes from thus understanding where it is going. Her style is fun, hard-hitting and funky and has influences from her modern and jazz training. Although feminine, she can get down just as hard as the guys. Ava's favorite quote: "Why Walk, When You Can Dance?"
