Description

Based in Brussels, Compagnie Thor was founded in 1990 by choreographer Thierry Smits, whose work explores, often in an eclectic fashion, the bonds between mystic and erotic, the ambiguities between the sacred and corporeal, all the while probing the metaphysical problems of an individual's state of mind and emotions.

To date the company has produced more than twenty dance productions, notably: Eros délétère (1991), Cyberchrist (1995), Soirée dansante (1995), Corps(e) (1998), Red Rubber Balls (1999), L'Âme au diable (1994/2002), Dionysos' Last Day/ Stigma (2003), Reliefs d'un banquet (2004), d'Orient (2005), V.-Nightmares (2007) and To the Ones I Love (2010).

With its outstanding group of performing artists drawn from around the globe, the company has garnered itself an international reputation, touring extensively in Belgium and abroad, throughout Europe (France, the Netherlands, Germany, the UK, Denmark, Hungary, Croatia), the USA, the Middle East and Northern Africa.

In the course of the intervening two decades, Compagnie Thor has evolved into one of the mainstays of the Belgian dance world. Since its inception, the company has received support from several public institutions in Belgium, and its growing stature in the Belgium's dance scene has been acknowledged by an increase in support from its primary source of funding, the Fédération Wallonie-Bruxelles.
