'Bare Feet' Returns on PBS

PBS Bare Feet with Mickela Mallozzi

God bless PBS, amiright?  They're one of those wonderful organizations that helping to keep the Arts relevant and easily accessible to the public (which is becoming increasingly difficult these days). We love when they put dance in the spotlight, which they've done yet again by announcing the second season of their series "Bare Feet".

Emmy Award winning host and producer Mickela Mallozzi will travel around her home in New York City, spending time in different ethnic neighborhoods, learning about the dance and musical traditions of the different cultures that make NYC the diverse city it is.

In the first episode, Mallozzi finds herself in Chinatown, learning about the preparations for Chinese Lunar New Year performances. Some of the other episodes will include:

  • Learning some salsa from "The Last Mambo King" Orlando Marin
  • Performing onstage in Broadway's "Chicago"
  • Some improvised tap moves with Harlem tapper Jason Samuels-Smith

Visit their website to learn more about the series and find out where and when you can watch on your local PBS station.

Step Up is Heading To Your Computer Screen

Step Up is Heading To Your Computer Screen

If someone came up to you and said "quick, name a dance movie!" I'm willing to bet the first words out of your mouth (well, after 'Center Stage' of course) would be that 2006 film Step Up.

And if 'Step Up 2' and 'Step Up 3: All In' didn't fill your burning love for fabulous dancing couple Channing Tatum and Jenna Dewan-Tatum, don't worry! They're bringing the heat (for the FOURTH time) with their upcoming series "Step Up: High Water."

The series, which will be based on the movie franchise and produced by the power couple, is coming to YouTube Red this fall. The show will be 10 episodes and take place at the fictional High Water Performing Arts School in Georgia.

The show will have some big names, like "Glee" star Naya Rivera, Jade Chynoweth, Kendra Oyesanya and Ne-Yo. And the dancing looks like it's gonna be AWESOME.

Dance Moms Star Delays Prison Time

Abby Lee Miller has been making waves in the dance world for awhile now. First, it was with her controversial yet successful TV show "Dance Moms" that turned out stars like Maddie Ziegler.

Miller made headlines again in 2015 when she was accused of bankruptcy fraud and failing to report $120,000 worth of Australian currency that she brought into the country. After months of delays, she eventually pleaded guilty, and was tried and convicted. May 9th a judge sentenced her to one year and one day in a Southern Californian prison.

Though she was supposed to head behind bars today, she was rescheduled and is now set to start her sentence on July 12th. She's expected to serve only eight months if she exhibits good behavior.

Maybe she'll come out with an idea for a prison based dance show. Orange is the new...tap?
