The Wiz Live!

Last week, we told you how PBS is bringing recordings some of the most beloved Broadway musicals to your TV this fall. This week we've got another update for your small screen - live musicals!

Musicals have made a major comeback in broadcast television over the last few years. NBC made waves when they revived "The Sound of Music" in 2013 with American Idol Carrie Underwood in the starring role alongside Broadway powerhouses like Audra MacDonald, Christian Borle, and Laura Benanti.

Other networks followed suit, and over the last 4 years we've seen full productions like  ""Peter Pan Live!"" (NBC), ""Rocky Horror Picture Show"" (Fox), ""The Wiz Live!"" (NBC), and ""Dirty Dancing"" (ABC).

While reviews are quite mix, the networks show no sign of slowing down. Here's what you can look for on your small screen this fall:

""Little Mermaid Live!"" will premiere on ABC on October 3rd. The network is rebooting its brand ""The Wonderful World of Disney"", and the two-hour special will feature live performance alongside animation.

Fox will present ""A Christmas Story"" in December, based on the Broadway musical that's based on the film your dad makes you watch every Christmas (""you'll shoot your eye out!""). Benj Pasket and Justin Paul, who won a Tony Award this year for Dear Evan Hansen, will write several new songs for the show.

2018 will bring us even more musicals - Fox will present ""Rent"" to commemorate it's 20th anniversary, and NBC will air ""Bye Bye Birdy."" While we don't have date for those yet, we do know that NBC will air ""Jesus Christ Superstar"" on Easter Sunday.

What do you think should be broadcast next?
