Theater Raymond Kabbaz, the innovative performance space at Le Lycée Français de Los Angeles, is pleased to present Quebecois Dance Company Cas Public “9” (premiere in Los Angeles), on Friday, October 26, 2018 at 7:30pm.
“9” is a dance performance for young audience age 9 +. In coproduction with Kopergietery, the work is sure to appeal to all generations by pushing back the limits of silence, to rise above difference and transform the body into language.
Known for its eloquent dance, Cas Public now houses an atypical performer, Cai Glover, who overcame a hearing impairment to become a professional dancer.
With choreography inspired by sign language and ballet, he and four other dancers enter the world of Beethoven’s monumental Ninth Symphony and its famous Ode to Joy. Awe-inspiring and uplifting, “9” pushes back the boundaries of silence, transcends our preconceived notions of otherness, and transforms bodies into language.
Choreographer Hélène Blackburn has taken the unusual step of using this disability as a point of departure for her creation. Perceiving, experiencing, understanding. Our senses allow us to apprehend the world around us.
