Helen is a dedicated and expressive dance artist, teacher and choreographer. Qualified with U.K.A Dance, and with extensive hands-on experience, Helen has trained and worked for 15 years in the dance sector, across the UK and internationally.

Helen specialises in jazz, commercial, contemporary and Cuban Salsa. She has worked for institutions as diverse as The Southbank Centre, The REP, Billy Read’s Def Motion, The Arena Theatre, the Birmingham International Dance Festival (Four Squares) and The Birmingham Hippodrome. A central focus to Helen’s practice is working collaboratively with theatre companies. Since 2012 she has worked on productions in street-theatre, and on large-scale community projects supported by the Big Lottery Fund and Arts Council England. She is currently company choreographer for Regional Voice Theatre, combining both language and movement alongside pure dance performances. The company were awarded a GftA for their new production The Darlaston Dog Fight in January 2016.

Helen’s adult, youth and children’s dance classes are currently based at The Dance Workshop studios in Birmingham, where she teaches weekly in contemporary, Cuban, and commercial jazz. Helen further specialises in Early Stages movement and dance, from nature play and discovery, to drama and musical theatre. She also works closely with schools and Universities, developing material for assessment, and facilitating extra-curricular workshops.

Helen’s trained passion for dance runs alongside her career as a writer. She is a first class BA Hons graduate of Professional Writing & Philosophy, a Creative Writing lecturer, and a published author, as well as a dedicated dance artist.
