Roles

DANNY: The leader of the Burger Palace Boys. Good-looking, with an air of cool easy-going charm. Strong and confident. Tenor, Dance Requirement: strong mover

SANDY: Danny’s love interest. Sweet, wholesome, naive, like Sandra Dee of the “Gidget” movies. Soprano, Dance Requirement: strong mover

THE PINK LADIES (Rizzo, Frenchy, Marty, Jan): The club-jacketed, gum-chewing, hip-swinging girls’ gang that hangs around with the Burger Palace Boys:

RIZZO: Leader of the Pink Ladies. She is tough, sarcastic, and outspoken but vulnerable. Wounded with a quick wit and sharp tongue. Mezzo/Belt, Dance Requirement: strong mover

FRENCHY: A dreamer. Good-natured, but not that smart. Heavily made-up, fussy about her appearance – particularly her hair. She can’t wait to finish high school so she can be a beautician. Alto, Dance Requirement: strong mover

MARTY: The “beauty” of the Pink Ladies. Pretty, looks older than the other girls, but betrays her real age when she opens her mouth. Tries to act sophisticated. Mezzo/Belt, Dance Requirement: strong mover

JAN: Funny, loud, and compulsive eater. She’s pushy with the girls and hides her shyness with humor. Mezzo/Belt, Dance Requirement: strong mover

THE BURGER PALACE BOYS (Kenickie, Doody, Roger, Sonny): A super-cool, hard-looking group of high school wheeler-dealers...or so they think:

KENICKIE: Second-in-command of the Burger Palace Boys. Tough- looking, tattooed, surly, avoids any show of softness. Has an off-beat sense of humor. Tenor, Dance Requirement: strong mover

DOODY: Youngest of the guys. Small, boyish, open, with a disarming smile and a hero-worshipping attitude toward the other guys. He also plays the guitar. Tenor/Falsetto, Dance Requirement: strong mover

ROGER: The “anything-for-a-laugh” type. Full of mischief, half-baked schemes, and ideas. A clown who enjoys putting other people on. Tenor, Dance Requirement: strong mover

SONNY: Italian-American. A braggart and wheeler-dealer who thinks he’s a real lady-killer. Baritone, Dance Requirement: strong mover

OTHER ROLES:

PATTY: A typical cheerleader at an American public high school. Athletic, aggressive, sure of herself, and given to bursts of disconcerting enthusiasm. She can also twirl a baton. Alto, Dance Requirement: strong mover

CHA-CHA: A blind date. Takes pride in being “the best dancer at St. Bernadette’s.” Alto, Dance Requirement: strong dancer

EUGENE: The class valedictorian. Typical ‘apple-polisher’- smug and pompous, but gullible. Tenor, Dance Requirement: some movement

VINCE FONTAINE: A typical “teen audience” radio disc jockey. Slick, egotistical, fast-talking. A veteran “greaser.” Non-Singer, Dance Requirement: some movement

JOHNNY CASINO: A “greaser” student at Rydell who leads a rock ’n’ roll band and likes to think of himself as a real rock ’n’ roll idol. Tenor, Dance Requirement: strong mover

TEEN ANGEL: Frenchy’s good-looking guardian Angel. Smooth and polished. Tenor, Dance Requirement: some movement

MISS LYNCH: A no-nonsense English teacher. Non-Singer, Dance Requirement: some movement
