Direction and Level Switch
This across-the-floor exercise works on changing direction and level, on counts that don't stay even. Early steps get one count each. Later ones move to and-counts, and they arrive faster than you expect.
A quick spot guides you around each new direction. The basic jazz technique includes a chassé in forced arch, a ball change, a piqué drag into arabesque and an arabesque turn on relevé, then a grand plié second and a jump to the side.
