4/5 Beat Riff Combo & Reverse

Clarity with triplets and paradiddles is the goal of this rhythm exercise, so sit back on the beat and trust the timing. Start with a four-beat riff and add the fifth beat once you're comfy. Adding it should not jerk. The movement just moves up a little.

Promote an easy rise and fall, especially on that fifth beat, which is a chug. Push the first dig a touch before the paradiddle for a slight accent, and don't rush the four paradiddles at the end. Work through the and-a, and trust the timing.
