Ella Matweyou

Ella Matweyou began studying ballet at the age of eight in her hometown of Akron, OH. In high school, she attended the pre-professional ballet program at the Dance Institute of the University of Akron, where she performed with the University of Akron Dance Company. Ella went on to study as a dance major at Point Park University, concentrating in Modern & Jazz. After spending a semester at Point Park, she transferred to The Ohio State University to further her studies in contemporary dance, focusing on Dance Performance, Education, and Criticism. Ella graduated Summa Cum Laude with Distinction in May 2014, attaining her BFA in Dance with a minor in English. Ella has attended summer intensives with Point Park University in Pittsburgh, PA, The Equus Projects in NYC, Trinity-Laban Conservatoire of Music & Dance in London, American Dance Festival in Durham, NC, and San Francisco Conservatory of Dance. She has had the opportunity to perform choreography by Ohad Naharin, Bebe Miller, Robert Moses, Alex Ketley, Susan Hadley, Abby Zbikowski, Melanie Bales, Colleen Leonardi, and other distinguished professionals. At present, Ella is living in Portland, OR, where she is currently rehearsing for a new project with choreographer Eliza Larson. Ella teaches classes for both children and adults at The Aspire Project in North Portland, including ballet, creative movement, contemporary, and yoga. She is also an instructor at Pure Barre Portland - Lloyd.
