Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater has release a short film entitled "Rue Montorgueil." It features seven company members interacting and performing with several local Parisian artists and dance fans. Their goal was to showcase dancers of different backgrounds, nationalities and beliefs to remind us that no matter who you are, dance is a universal language.

The company shot the video on their recent 10 week European tour. And good news - there's more to come. This video is the first in a year long web-based series Ailey is doing in collaboration with French choreographer and director Redha Medjellekh. The series hopes to make dance in the digital realm more accessible and relatable.

In an interview with Dance Informa, Medjellekh said “I wanted to illustrate that no matter what your gender, nationality or age, we can communicate and share a common thread through dance – it’s a universal language. Recorded on Paris’ Rue Montorgueil in a one-shot take, we sought to create a chain reaction from person to person on one of Paris’ busiest and most well-known streets, so the viewer feels a part of the frenetic energy.”
