April is Parkinson's Awareness Month, and the 28th will mark 'World Dance for Parkinson's Day'. The day will be marked by a range of events from arts centers and dance companies from 16 countries around the world, with a goal of raising awareness and encouraging communities to set up initiatives to serve those within the Parkinson's community.

Some of the companies involved include: Canada's National Ballet School, Netherlands' Dance for Health, New York's Mark Morris Dance Group/Dance for PD, Dance for Parkinson's Australia, South Korea’s Dancers' Career Development Center, France's DaPoPa, Dutch National Ballet/Creative Wellness Foundation, English National Ballet, Houston Ballet, India's Hrishikesh Pawar Contemporary Dance, UK's Musical Moving, Australia’s Queensland Ballet, Scottish Ballet, Sweden's Skånes Dansteater, and Malta's Step Up for Parkinson's.

All of these organizations already have programs and specialized classes in place for people with Parkinson's. Each will offer special programming for April 28th including special classes, and documentary film screenings.

Programming for the event has been handled with NYC's Mark Morris Dance Group, and Hamilton City Ballet's Dance for Parkinson's in Canada.
