Hit me, Broadway, one more time.

That’s right - millennials rejoice, because a Britney Spears musical is in the works. To clarify, that doesn’t mean that the princess of pop herself is going to grace the Great White Way (although, honestly, that would be really amazing and I would definitely get on a plane to see that). But her iconic music is officially headed for Broadway in the form of a new comedy musical. We don’t have too many details yet - but we do know that it’s going to be called “Once Upon a One More Time,” and we are 👏here👏for👏it.

Broadway, if you’re listening, here are my requests:

  • Hit Me Baby One More Time (obviously)
  • Stronger
  • Circus
  • Work, B*tch
  • I’m a Slave 4 U
  • Crazy
  • Oops!...I Did It Again

Though casting has not been announced yet, we do know the choreographers who will be tackling the challenge: none other than Keone & Mari, the powerhouse duo behind a number of music videos, commercials, and more recently “Ruth,” an “enhanced eBook”. Kristin Hanggi, who was nominated for a Tony for her work as director and developer of Rock of Ages, is slated to direct the new show. This seems to be a good match, as she has worked with other music stars like the Pussycat Dolls, Gwen Stefani, and Christina Aguilera. The musical will also feature a book by Jon Hartmere, whose previous work include “Bare: A Pop Opera” (where he worked alongside Hanggi), and other screenplays for Disney, Paramount, and Nickelodeon.

The musical will start with a pre-Broadway run at the James M. Nederlander Theatre in Chicago in October, and will run through December 1st. After, it’s expected to transition to Broadway.
