This week, nominations for the Bessie Awards were announced. The award, which is a sort of Academy Award for New York City dance, is a highly coveted honor. Some of the winners have already been announced - for example, the award for Outstanding Revival went to Dayton Contemporary Dance Company’s performance of Donald McKayle’s Rainbow ‘Round My Shoulder, produced by Paul Taylor’s American Modern Dance. Other categories include Outstanding Production, Outstanding Performer, and Outstanding Music Composition / Sound Design.
