It’s no secret that life as a dancer is difficult. We often find ourselves feeling drained both emotionally and physically, but when you add low pay into the mix, you get pushed past your breaking point.

At least, that’s the way The Australian Ballet is beginning to feel. It appears that the company members from down under have filed for industrial action, and this wouldn’t be the first time they’ve been up in arms. Back in 1970 the dancers went on strike due to their pay and work conditions. However, it looks like things are going to be a little more peaceful this time around.

The dancers from The Australian Ballet simply want to be compensated fairly for their increased workload, and are having an open discussion with company directors. So it’s not likely that the company members will have to dance in the streets and rally for their cause, but it’s nice to see them standing up for what they believe in. Money has always been a hard subject for dancers and directors, but maybe we just need to have more open conversations about pay.
